Growth Thoughts Project (GTP) is an
interdenominational, non-governmental Christian Ministry that brings together a
group of Christians from different backgrounds, who are committed to the
Christian education and development of children. We do this primarily by
providing materials and resources for children and teachers, providing training
for children teachers and supporting churches and other Christian ministries in
running children programmes in churches and holiday camps.
Our vision is to contribute to the development of children, enabling them to attain their God-given potential. The project is born out of the realisation that we have a mission to promote and provide an effective teaching and guidance for children – and that should enable them to have a loving relationship with God, understand their place in the body of Christ and contribute to the development of society, to the glory of God. Our services cover children from Nursery age to teenagers.
Specifically, the objectives of the project are:
- To reach the child with the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ;
- To provide services and support to all interest groups towards the development of the child. This includes providing materials and resources for children and teachers, providing training for children teachers and supporting churches and other Christian ministries in running children programmes in churches and holiday camps.
The seed of GTP was sown in 1997 from a simple request by the then Director, Chaplaincy Services (PROT) of the Nigerian Army, Very Rev. (Col.) M. O. Keripe. The request was to write/produce a teaching manual for children teachers in churches under the Nigerian Army Chaplaincy. The first manual was written exclusively for the Nigeria Army (PROT) in 1998, as were the next two editions for the years 1999 and 2000 – by which time we had also introduced workbooks for the children, in addition to the teachers’ manuals. As word about the work started spreading, other churches thought the manuals would be useful in their contexts as well.
Therefore, in 2001 GTP was born as to ensure proper organisation and better coordination of the work to the Nigerian Army and other churches. Since then we have continued to publish teaching manuals for children teachers in various churches, workbooks for the children, and recruited more writers.
